There are so many wordplay variants out there, as a writer you shouldn't worry about whether or not it's been done before, what you should focus on is the best possible version of that wordplay variant or concept you can work shop so as to make it your own.

People just type everything is played just to say it’s played. Regardless of how many times they’ve saw it or haven’t seen it. If 1 person types it’s played in their vote, chances are the rest will follow suit because #metoo.

I don't auto write off a bar coz I've seen the wordplay before, but if u do use something I've seen several times then the bar is that much higher for it to really hit.

Yea of course, it has to be flipped well. But a concept being used before multiple times doesn't matter as much if they DO flip it well. Ppl who have done text for longer have just seen more concepts used in general so obv things end up being played more easily for them.

When I'm voting and see a wordplay or concept I've seen before, first I ask the question "Was this any different from what I've already seen?" and if it is, then I evaluate the bar on its own merits, using a set of attributes as my guideline. If it's way too similar or lesser in quality, then I discredit the bar based on that. That rarely happens because I try to be objective, but sometimes it's necessary.
