personally I think religion is a form of superstition, and the positives that people get from it are already things that society would instill into them anyways if they are raised correctly.
Crediting prayer for something working out is kind of like athletes who thank god when they win...god gets credit when everything works out, but that doesn't always happen does it, so are you actually being assisted by a supernatural being or do things just work out sometimes?

Dawkins is awesome... he just has an obnoxious rhetoric and sucks balls at philosophy.
Like members here and others that are obnoxious, he and his friends love to juxtapose their atheism with fundamentalist religion. Its a fall dichotomy as their paradigms aren't even on each others' boarders.
There are some famous theologians/philosophers that don't do much in apologetics at all, but I'd be interested in their take.
Conor Cunningham has a book called the Genealogy of Nihilism. It kind of traces modern thought from Avicenna to Nietzsche, showing the strains and themes that created modern methodological atheism.
